How to choose a good bottle of wine.

Can you choose a good bottle of wine in the supermarket without having had the benefit of tasting them all first?

There's no failsafe way to ensure you'll get a good bottle without tasting it first, but you can avoid some real horrors

1. Avoid bottles with cute critters on the label such as a bird, insect or an animal. Unless of course it's your own cute pet and you personalized the label. These wines are so bad, you just might consider seeking damages.

2. Avoid bottles sold at "half-price" – the lure of such wines is only ever supposed to be their promotion excitement. It's never good when taste is secondary, or even tertiary.

3. Avoid spending your money on a bottle of wine without trying before you buy. Unless you've tried it before and know you like it.

4. Avoid ginormous bottles – desperation to impress is best expressed through the wine, not the size of the glass.

And last, life is just too short, to be drinking wine you don't like.
